KT speaking at Oxford Union
KT travelled to Oxford University to debate at the famed Oxford Union Society. The Oxford Union is a debating society modeled after the House of Commons and is where most of the British Prime Ministers honed their skills as students. Like the House of Commons, the Oxford Union offers a proposition, in this case, “Resolved, this House believes Barack Obama should be reelected to a second term.” The motion is then debated by speakers for and against the motion, complete with questions and interruptions from the audience and speakers on the other bench. Speakers make their case with argument and humor, and are interrupted by hecklers (Think Margaret Thatcher in Iron Lady). KT offered a humorous critique of Obama’s foreign policy and spoke in opposition to the UK Shadow Foreign Minister and US editor of the Economist. A clip of the debate is below. KT’s speech is at 7.40 on the timeline. Just move the arrow to the right to reach it.
